The Passage
Week 1
We have been at sea for a week now and have another two weeks to go. We are at latitude 8 S and longitude 111 W, 1200 miles from any land. We have had to motor maybe about 20% of the time. Usually at night, when the wind dies down. But we have also had some great spinnaker runs. That is the big colorful sail you see pictures of on sail boats. We have a dark blue one with skull and swords. Remember the pirate ship we took in the Cayman Islands. The picture of it was in one of my earlier emails. Anyway besides the money (there were no women to take) we also got their spinnaker. A picture is attached.
We have been catching mahi mahi like crazy. We had to stop fishing because we have so much frozen.
The weather has been great, sun everyday. This week we have had the full moon and it has been lighting our way every night. But you know when the moon is so bright you cannot see the stars. Well what about Moon glasses? Special lens that would block the suns reflected light from the moon and highlight the natural light from the stars. O.K., O.K. I have been at sea for a week (you get a little batty). Wait until the third week.
Next week I am going to send to you a rough schedule for the next two years. So that those of you who want to join us can start to plan ahead.
Love Gary

P.S.S.
I want to thank all of you that responded to my P.S. from last week, it was really great to hear from you. “P.S. I sure would like it if you all shared some of your life with me. Let me know periodically how your doing, what your doing, what’s exciting or even boring in your life. It would really be nice to hear from you.” I am sure the rest of you just have not had time to respond yet, but I am really looking forward to hearing from you.
