First things first….Happy Birthday Tommy Love! (I’m thinking of you!)
So here we are at the Marina in Colon. Boy is it HOT! We have been told we will begin making our transit through the Canal tomorrow late afternoon 5pm ish. Panama is CST(central standard time). We will begin by picking up our pilot and one linesman and will then make our way to the mouth of the canal where we will go through our first lock and then anchor for the evening in the lake. (There are crododiles there so I will be on croc watch!) We will then finish the trip the next morning sometime and will be done between 1pm and 4pm Friday afternoon. There is too much information to write the process here but I assure you it is very interesting. We watched a few very large cargo ships pass thru yesterday….amazing.
Christine and Ben, the bikers from Maryland will join us for the transit and help us with lines. They are looking forward to the opportunity as we are.
Mike, Gary and I toured San Lorenzo…National Park where Pirates (Captain Morgan) built forts etc….very interesting. We walked a little through the jungle and saw lots of monkeys and birds. The jungle is so alive and beautiful….but also full of dangerous animals. We plan to take lots of pictures and video of our transit…so stay tuned.
