Happy Father’s Day to all of the Father’s in our lives!
492nm to go. All is well here. The seas have calmed down quite a bit and so have the winds (and so have I). We are motoring again but that is just how it goes.
A few days ago Gary had to go up the mast to fix the Genoa sail. It was stuck open for a few days there. Obviously, this is a tough and dangerous task to undertake at sea! He was able to fix that and all is working now. We’ve been loosing some of the hardware off the main sail along the way so we had to reef the main two days ago. This is giving us less power because we have less sail out now. Mike (McIver) rigged something again to give us a little more sail power though. This has slowed us down a bit but we are still making better time than we originally anticipated. Our friends arrived Marquesas on Friday. There are already heading to another Island because there weren’t many services/provisions. They will keep us updated. There are 10 Islands that make up Marquesas. If there are not any services on the one we planned on going to first….we may head to another.
Mike finally caught his much awaited Tuna last night….a 30 pounder! We had the most exquisite sushi for dinner! What a treat. We will be having more this evening for our second Father’s Day celebration. We often sit around together at dinner and talk about whatever. Mike and Gary talk about how much they enjoy their alone time at the helm during their night shifts and how they don’t understand why I don’t enjoy night sailing. Well, I explained to them that first, I can’t see well at night and okay, maybe I’m a little afraid of the dark. I begin my shift with my daily prayers. I start out giving thanks and appreciation for all the wonderful things in my life. I thank God for our safety along this journey and begin to think about how big of a journey this is and before you know it I am making all kinds of promises with the Lord to be a better person if he just lets me live thru this Pacific crossing! Beyond that- the flying fish are jumping on this boat left and right, I’m also busy looking thru the night vision goggles for any sign of anything, not that we have even seen another boat or an airplane since we left Galapagos. Also, remember it is always my night shift that all the alarms go off and floods happen. Then my mind wanders and wonders if there really are UFO’s out there this would be a perfect spot to nab someone or an entire boat of humans…who would know? Lastly, the sea monsters….yes, I am sure as I sit in the dark a gigantic tentacle will reach up from the sea and snatch me from the helm, never leaving a clue of my demise. Seriously, how is a girl to enjoy her ‘alone’ time with all that going on! I’m pretty sure I exhaust them……
That’s it for now…Love to all….
Marnie , I totally get what you are saying!! Happy Father’s Day to you Mike and Gary. Glad you finally got your Tuna. Fish jumping on the boat is still freaking me out.
emails are coming for your night entertainment. Stay safe.:)

Who would know if you guys were abducted? Are you kidding, we are following your every move. Everyone that loves you would know. Anyway, girl you need to curb your imagination a little or you are going to freak us all out. Just enjoy the sail and know that you are not the only one that is praying for you guys.
Cute Marnie…I’ll bet that by the end of this huge multi-year voyage, you will grow to love them too. Imagine instead all of your ancestors up there in the stars looking down at you and smiling…
